How to Prepare for a Massage Session

Getting a Massage (Especially at Le Massage) is a Delightful and Valuable Experience.

A successful and effective massage session depends on both the masseur and the client.
Masseurs use specialized techniques to help you relax your muscles and relieve daily stress. However, there are some steps clients can take to prepare their body before, during, and after the session, ensuring an even more relaxing experience with longer-lasting benefits.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE THE MASSAGE:
  • Prepare yourself with a warm bath or shower. A warm bath will relax your muscles and, by extension, you. Mixing sweat with massage oil or cream would not be a pleasant experience for either you or the masseur.
  • Do not wear excessive makeup or strong perfumes, especially if you haven’t followed the above step.
  • Do not eat excessively before a massage session. The purpose is to relax, and if you have eaten too much beforehand, it will cause discomfort.
  • Drink plenty of water starting the day before. It’s generally a good habit, not just when you’re getting a massage.
  • Give yourself enough time to arrive on time. Rushing will not help you; on the contrary, you’ll need more time to relax afterward.
  • Choose your masseur. Communication between the client and masseur is crucial for a successful massage session.
  • Book your appointment in advance (3-5 days prior) to ensure you find a time that suits you and your preferred masseur is available.
WHAT TO DO DURING THE MASSAGE SESSION:
  • Talk to your masseur about anything that causes you discomfort or if certain daily movements strain you. E.g.: “My job requires me to bend repeatedly, resulting in back pain.” This will help them identify and better focus on your problem.
  • Try to focus on your breathing. You can use meditation to enhance your experience.
  • Don’t pressure yourself to relax. If you feel the need to talk, do so; it might actually help you relax by expressing what you feel and what’s on your mind.
WHAT TO DO AFTER THE MASSAGE SESSION:
  • First, thank your masseur.
  • Take a shower, as you’ll be covered in oils.
  • Go home and relax for two hours.
  • Ensure adequate water intake. The oils used usually have detoxifying properties, which can dehydrate you. A bottle of water after the session will prevent this.
  • Prepare for possible soreness the next day. It’s normal and due to the release of lactic acid in your body, which occurs during the massage.
  • Eat healthily. Just because you were lying down doing nothing during the session doesn’t mean your digestive system stopped working; you’ll likely be hungry after the massage. So, here’s a good excuse to eat and simultaneously balance your blood sugar levels.
  • Faithfully follow your masseur’s advice, e.g., stretches, exercises for better posture, relaxation methods, etc.
  • Incorporate massage into your daily life so that stress, anxiety, and tense muscles remain at manageable levels. Don’t hesitate to schedule your next appointment right then.
