How Chronic Pain Affects our Emotional Well-being!

CHRONIC PAIN AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING.

Pain is normal, and everyone will experience it somewhere in their body at some
point in their lives. When your body experiences an injury or illness, it informs you –
with pain. Once the body heals itself – with time, medication, physical
therapy, massage, etc. – the pain subsides. However, if the pain lasts longer
than 12 weeks/3 months, then it is no longer described simply as pain but as chronic
pain.
Chronic pain can affect your daily activities such as
work, social life, exercise, sleep, self-care, and
for some, caring for others. This affects mental health and, in turn,
emotional well-being.
If you cannot do the things you are used to doing for a long
time, you may have difficulty sleeping, which could increase
your stress. If you cannot relax, you may become further stressed, and thus the cycle
continues. Chronic pain can be difficult to manage, but it is not
impossible.
Studies have shown that exercise and a series of massage sessions – always with your
doctor’s advice – are extremely helpful in reducing pain and improving emotional well-being.
Massage helps reduce pain but can also relax you
mentally.
